How can I turn off Smart Addresses in the Message Browser view - big security risk

I have turned off Smart Addresses in Mail Preferences, and for individual messages being read I can see the sender's full email address.

It would be much more useful if the message browser view also obeyed my preference setting (turn it off) so that I can quickly assess which emails come from suspicious senders.

I use this to confirm that the sender is who they claim to be because I recognise their email address.

It is so easy and common for spammers and phishers to spoof 'Smart Address' names that displaying the full email address seems to me to be a very basic cybersecurity precaution.

I find it surprising that Apple claims to take cybersecurity so seriously yet they make it so hard for users of Apple Mail to perform this most basic authentication step.

If users prefer Smart Addresses only in the Message Browser, then fine, that's their choice reflected in their preference setting. But please give the rest of us the choice to configure the Message Browser display to include full email addresses in order to improve our cybersecurity.
