Restored Apple IPhone 8 plus a 1864

Today I get an iPhone as a gift. It is an 8plus. I started to set it up and I did the thumb print. But I think I pressed something ( I don't know what) and I'm being redirected to enter a 6 passcode. I did not get too far in setting up the phone and I can't get pass the screen to enter a passcode.

It saying ( enter passcode) Touch ID requires your passcode when iphone restarts. I need help to set up my new phone.

Thank you

You must create a 6 digit passcode before you create your fingerprint. That is the passcode you need to enter.

When you first turned on the phone did it display “Hello”? If it didn’t then it is not a new phone and was set up by and for someone other than you.

Setting up email has nothing to do with it.

When you set up the phone to begin with, you're prompted to create a passcode. After that, you can set up Touch ID. If you forgot the passcode that you set up, you will have to put the phone into recovery mode and restore iOS then start over.
