Some texts cause Messages to crash
There are some text chains which when selected cause Messages app to crash on my MacBook Pro. Those same text chains can be selected and viewed on both my iPhone and my iPad with no problems. On the MBP these errant text chains can viewed for a few exchanges and then a text is received and when the chain is selected the Messages app crashes.
I've been working with Apple support and they are going through the usual problem tree and there's been no resolution. What I have done
- rebooted MBP (repeatedly)
- logged in to a different account on the MBP. Messages seems to work fine but this doesn't mean anything because it is a test account and there is only one text.
- started MBP in Safe Mode. Same problem, certain text chains cause the Messages app to crash.
- Upgraded from Ventura to Sonoma. Messages app still crashes.
- Signed MBP out of my iCloud account. Did not save messages locally. Signed back in to iCloud account so all messages were downloaded from iCloud. Then I was able to open the problem text chains. All worked fine for a while and then there were (different) text chains that started causing the Messages app to crash.
- Reinstalled Sonoma O/S. Messages still crashes.
So now I am going to call Apple Support once again and see what help they can be. But since to this point they seem clueless I am wondering if anyone has had anything happen. Please note that doing the O/S upgrade and reinstall had no impact. Thanks.
