iPhone asks for connecting to Apple TV on public place and it turns off alone

I was at the mall having lunch when a popup showed on my iPhone saying that there was an Apple TV to connect to and it wanted to use my Bluetooth. I closed the popup several times and suddenly my phone turned black and I couldn't turn it on for 4-5 minutes. At some point, it restarted alone then I was able to use it again. I asked the near Apple reseller if that is something normal and they said that they have the same issue and it has happened in the mall since the release of iOS17. I was afraid that this could be an exploit. Any suggestions? Is it a bug? Is it safe?

This happened to me and several people at a restaurant bar tonight. Our phones kept getting the Apple TV connect request message, then they would power off/on and generally behaved very buggy. After I left, my phone started working fine. Any insight into what is causing this?

My daughter and I had the same issue today while shopping in Costco. Both of us receive notifications that Bluetooth was trying to connect to a nearby Apple TV. Both of our phones froze up. We were able to get them shut down on our own, but not without several minutes of fighting with the frozen phones. At one point, mine turned itself off and rebooted itself without me doing anything. Once we turned off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in the settings, our phones started acting normal again. I am a little concerned that someone was able to hack into my phone if they got as far as rebooting it. Hoping to see some more information on this issue.

POSSIBLE HACKER!!!!

i was on the bus and kept getting the Apple TV connection pop up. I looked ahead and a tall man in a long black leather coat was pulling out a FLIPPER ZERO from his pocket every few seconds and looking over his shoulder to the nearest iPhone.

I assume the FLIPPER ZERO was acting as an Apple TV to get a pop up on your phone so unsuspecting people log in and he gets all personal information.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL, SHUT OFF YOUR PHONE AND LEAVE THE AREA IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU!!!

I had the same thing happen mid air during a flight this morning. I’ve never had this happen and am concerned my phone has been hacked. I kept getting prompted to connect to AppleTV and/or Bluetooth, my phone would freeze and the touchscreen would stop working. Then my phone would shut itself off or not let me restart it myself. Twice I was asked if I wanted to transfer my phone number to another phone. I got so freaked out I shut my phone off for the rest of the flight and turned it back on once we landed but I immediately turned WiFi and Bluetooth off. If it makes a difference, I haven’t installed 17.2.1.

reporting the exact same thing happened to me @ casino in Vegas on 1/11/2024 at CES. I wasn’t near lots of Tabs or displays. Away from most other electronics.

I killed Bluetooth as soon as it popped up (vanished after <1sec). Before I could turn off WiFi… zap. Black screen and wouldn’t respond to any button presses. Took about 4-5 mins before I could manually power up .

Thanks for not letting me actually turn off radios Tim Apple!
