iphone 14 pro not connecting to itunes

Just bought an iPhone 14 pro and have followed the general advice and the more detailed advice (on here) about how to get this connected to iTunes 12.8.2.3 running on my iMac with El Capitan 10.11.6 All seemed to be going fairly well until I hit the final hurdle where the software update did not install and upon clicking the 'Learn more' button it states 'If your iPhone is using iOS 17 or later, make sure that your Mac is using macOS High Sierra or later.

My imac is 2009 and the higest OS it can run is El Capitan 10.11.6

Unfortunately having spent on a new iPhone 14 ( which uses iOS 17.02 it now seems I cant reach my music to have it on my phone. ( My Music includes many CDs which have not been bought via itunes store , but which I have bought as hard coppies - but want to carry these with me on my iphone)

Does anyone have any solutions please?

Thank you very much for your reply. I agree I think this is pretty much the case.

I still can't believe that Apple are so desperate to trap people into these situations - it really puts me off them.

Anyway thanks again.

I'll have to spend hours importing album art into my newish mac studio, as when you import music files only a small percentage seem to keep their artwork. It will keep me busy.
