Command clicking a link in an Apple Mail message no longer opens the link behind mail In Sonoma 14.0

For me the easiest and fastest way to open links behind mail, especially if I had several links in the message has always been a simple Command-Click in the URL address link. That ended after I upgraded to Sonoma 14.0. Now it insists on opening the browser (Safari) in the foreground as if the Command key was never pressed, requiring a lot of back-and-forth between the two. I realize that a right-click on a link will offer you choices of things you want to happen, but if you're used to working in a speedy way, having to click, then drag while trying to aim for one of the choices feels slow after the way I'd been doing it.

I hope it wasn't eliminated.

UH OHHHHH! If I could delete or edit my 10/26 "SUCCESS!" post I would. Overnight, and after a non-related restart, I've noticed that command-clicking is playing tricks again and opens browser windows behind mail MOST of the time, but only when it feels like it. Many times it does not. In addition, I've noticed that right-clicking and selecting the open-behind-mail choice is also hit or miss to the same degree.

I paid very close attention to how I was doing it too, making sure the proper sequence was followed the same each time.

So it's not there yet. Better, but not there.

Hello Michael Goettee,

It may help to try testing things out in safe mode on the Mac. This can help to rule out some software from conflicting. This page has info and steps on that process: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Briefly testing things out in a newly created Admin account, as that'll see if it's a system-wide behavior or one specific to the current user account. This page has info on adding the new account if needed: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

If it still happens you may try following up with Apple Support to investigate further: Apple Support

Cheers.

I may try that later, after hearing if others face the same thing. I've had to try several things in safe mode lately since, for reasons unknown to me, Sonoma 14.0 automatically installed itself without my knowingly changing that automatic setting and all **** has broken loose on a number of things. I'm guessing the last tech person who upgraded me to Ventura while fixing something else might have changed the setting. Starting up in safe mode hasn't fixed much yet and problems remain in safe mode. I NEVER upgrade to anything with a ".0" after the number. Now I remember very clearly WHY. I feel like I'm in BETA **** for this OS. It certainly isn't ready for prime time. It's broken several things in Photoshop as MANY forum participants will agree on.
