Apple Music indicates “Your Offline” when iPad is connected to the internet via WiFi

I have tried all of the suggested fixes found on line including wiping the iPad and reinstalling/downloading everything (many hours lost). Recently update IOS and am running the latest version.

Thank you for the reply. The issue is isolated to the Apple Music app. All other apps connect seamlessly with the internet through the WiFi connection.

I have Safari, Chrome, and Edge installed on the iPad and have zero issues surfing the web with any of the browsers.

The iPad is running the latest version of IOS - 17.0.3, the router firmware is up to date, my ISP service is operating normally, and the router was given a hard reset (powered cycled off and then on). I have had this issue on a numbered of different WiFi feeds, including tethering to a number of different iPhones and Samsung cell phones. All of this was tried on multiple occasions prior to posting the request for help.

The only issue that I have been having is Apple Music’s inability to “connect” to WiFi when the iPad clearly is on line.

I might have found the source of the problem. I am running ExpressVPN on the iPad. I uninstalled the app and I was able to have Apple Music connect. I reinstalled and reinitialized the VPN and, up until this point in time, I still have Apple Music “connecting”. There may be a bug in iPad OS dealing with VPN’s or it might be on the ExpressVPN side.

The curious issue about the VPN connectivity is that I have ExpressVPN running on my iPhone and I do not experience any issues with Apple Music connecting while the VPN is active.

Hi Clarke1956,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

Is the issue isolated to Apple Music?

Are you able to use Safari to browse?

Have you had the chance to try a different Wi-Fi network?

In the meantime, let’s check for a software update and make sure that you are running the latest version of iPadOS.

While it isn't inherently assured that an update will resolve the issue, updating to the latest software version for your device can help isolate potential software issues.

Kindly secure a backup and update.

If the issue is not isolated to a single app, please try the steps below.

  • "If you're connected to a Wi-Fi network but you can’t get online, try to use your Wi-Fi network on other devices. If you can't get online using your other devices, there might be a service outage. Call your cable company or internet provider for help.
  • Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network in a different location. If your device can connect, you need to get help with your Wi-Fi network. If your device can't connect to any Wi-Fi networks, contact Apple.
  • Update your Wi-Fi router with the latest firmware and make sure that the router supports your Apple product. For more information, contact the router's manufacturer."
