VIP mail box contains emails from non VIP senders

Please start by checking that these contacts are not flagged as VIP in your iPhone or the iCloud website. The following Apple Support articles explain how to do this:

This is a bug. Just saw another thread for macOS regarding this issue on Sonoma and iOS and iPadOS 17.

I have the same issue since upgrading to IOS 17 - on both my iPad and iPhone. All email is coming up under VIP; I have several contacts marked as VIP and they have the gold star, but the filter is now useless.

I am having the same problem. I just noticed that I have ~200 email addresses/contacts on my list of VIPs. In doing some research saw some writeups that indicated you were limited to only 100 VIPs in IOS. I'm wondering if the amount of VIPs I have is causing the system to hiccup. All was fine till IOS 17.

What version of macOS and what version of Apple Mail are you on if you don't mind me asking? I'm just wondering if the older versions of Mail haven't been patched yet. Current version:

macOS: 14.2.1

Mail: 16.0 (3774.300.61.1.2)

This is driving me absolutely insane. I rely on my VIP mailbox to give me the important emails and all my inbox is showing in the VIP. I even went as far as to delete every single contact in my VIP contact list and re-add the ones that I remembered. I deleted the VIP mailbox and re-added it several times and it’s doing the same exact thing. Please fix the bug, it is driving me absolutely bonkers!

Yes, this is still active for me. While I only get VIP emails now into my VIP folder (which is very much appreciated), all of the non-VIP emails I got when the problem first started are still in my VIP folder. I’d like to have only VIP emails in my VIP folder. But like I said, it seems as though new non-VIP emails have stopped showing up in the folder. Looks like I’m going to have to filter the emails by VIP/non-VIP and remove those that aren’t VIP. Quite a hassle. I wish Apple would have automatically done that when they fixed the issue. And I hope the issue is truly fixed.

Is this bug still active for anyone else? I can't say that I have noticed its persistence since the subsequent updates. Which would be good news for my case.
