"Preferences" is not there under "music." How do I proceed? I have found "convert" but converting to an MP3 option is not available.

Once you go there, look for the Files tab and then click "Import Settings."

I hope you don't mind, but I gotta ask: Why?! Bit for bit AAC is better than MP3. More, transcoding deteriorates the music. Lossy>lossy is never a good thing. And superior lossy > indeferior lossy is worse.
Looking to get a “jooki” for my child which plays only mp3 files. No screen no internet. She doesn’t need anything too fancy but loves music and I’m not willing to give her access to everything else that comes with something to play iTunes.
