PDF headings not printing correctly with Sonoma 14 on my iMac M1

Printing a PDF from Preview produces a heading of unreadable characters. I believe this is a known problem with Sonoma 14 and it has been suggested online to try printing the PDF from Adobe Acrobat Reader. That didn't work, nor with other PDF readers that I downloaded to try. I have printed this very file without problem years ago so before updating to Sonoma, as well as downloading a more recent version. Does anyone have any information on a good resolution or workaround to this problem? I am definitely running Sonora 14.0 but this is not being recognised here - how come my Mac is being seen as OS X, 10.11?

Hi,

Thanks. As it's a problem with printing PDF files, mostly you have to be using Preview on a Mac, unless you have third party software. The printing problem arises because Macintosh, which has been using PostScript in WebKit for 40 years, has now abandoned it. I was talking with Apple Support today about another problem and they told me they didn't know about this because no-one has called them to get help about it! So if anyone has a problem with their system, any problem, it seems to me a first port of call would actually be to chat to an Apple Support person. They don't see the information on online discussions and blogs. However, as my urgent need today was to recover a lot of files I managed to delete (ugh!) I didn't discover if they could see a way to help, but I will call them.

I resolved it for myself, for one document, by searching out the original made in Pages, and by changing the header to one that did not have emboldened font. I saved it to PDF and printed it OK. It is not a satisfactory solution, obviously.

Best wishes
