IPhone 15 pro (17.0.2) Bluetooth connection problems with my 2015 bmw on calls

My new phone pairs easily with my car (2015 bmw x1) but whenever I place or receive a call, it often drops the Bluetooth connection within seconds or mins. The call continues on through the phone, but I can't hear it.

Spotify or other audio plays fine to my car speakers wih no drops.

It is only phone calls.

I've tried deleting and repairing, resetting network, rebooting software on the car.

Called bmw, and there is no bluetooth software update for my model.

Help!

iPhone 15 Pro

It is definitely an issue with the iPhone 15 / iOS 17.## combo. My older phones work fine running the same iOS version. It also works with my other bluetooth receivers and only have an issue with my specific 2011 BMW Bluetooth connection. It will connect no problem but after the initial call will hold the connection but lose audio. After the call it will simply lose the connection and toggling BT on/off will help it reconnect but it will fail soon after a call starts. Sometimes it keeps the connection but that's a rare occurrence. It's just a mess and annoying because Apple passes the issue to BMW and BMW passes it right back to Apple. Oh well...

I’m having the exact same problem with my iPhone 15 pro and 2013 BMW F31. My old iPhone still works fine. So frustrating that Apple aren’t doing anything to resolve the issue. The Bluetooth works fine with my older Audi, Citroen and son’s 2015 Hyundai. Apple support blame BMW stating that they need to update their software. I argue that it’s easier for me to change to Samsung! My mates brand new top of the line Samsung works fine. Come on Apple sort this out!

iphone 15 PM, I am having the same issue with my Mini Countryman 2014. When I try to call someone using Siri voice, does not send the voice to my car then after a while Bluetooth also disconnects. You will see that it’s a common issue If you check similar posts on this Apple Support portal also Reddit and the other relevant websites.

I am waiting for an update for this issue in this week, if no update, I will return it before 14th days after purchase

Yes, even with the recent updates, it still seems to be a problem. Not sure if it's Apple, or an issue with the BMW software module now being outdated for the new ios. BMW stubbornly refuses to update their software (the last one for my car was from 2014).

Finally gave up and installed a Bimmertech mmi pro carplay retrofit. (Still working out the kinks on that) but at least calls aren't dropping. Call quality thus far isn't quite as clear as bluetooth direct to the car, so hoping a future software update fixes this...

Hello subwayalice,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds as though you've already performed all the actions provided in article, How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support under section: Connect using Bluetooth. The steps from that section should help with a variety of connection issues.

If that's the case, then the next option will be to speak with Apple Support for additional guidance. You can reach them at Get Support.

Best regards.
