Chat notifications disappearing after opening WhatsApp, even unopened chats

When I open WhatsApp it will automatically remove all WhatsApp notifications of messages I received from different chats even though I didn’t open them. I would like the unread chats to stay in my notifications. I tried playing around with the notification settings but no luck. This has been happening for a year or so on my 13, and now 15 Pro
