Airpods pro (2nd generation) having a bug

I'm a music enthusiast who enjoys singing along while listening to songs, which is a common habit for many people. However, I've noticed a drawback or perhaps a peculiar behavior when using my AirPods. It seems that when I try to sing the same lyrics as the music I'm listening to, the AirPods automatically lower the volume, as if they believe I'm attempting to have a conversation with someone.

This behavior is understandable when you're actually speaking to someone, but it's rather inconvenient when you're simply enjoying music. Interestingly, if I choose to hum the lyrics instead of singing them, the AirPods don't reduce the volume. It's a bit perplexing why Apple hasn't addressed this issue, and I hope that they might resolve it in a future software update for the AirPods.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue and tested it out?

Hi WinsC1,

I tried the settings you recommended, but unfortunately, it didn't work with the latest Airpods pro (2nd generation). Any other ideas?

With this new generation, i tried all the 4 options Off, Transparency, Adaptive, Noise Cancellation too. But no luck.

Unfortunately, I had to return as this doesn't work for my needs.

Secondly, I hope Apple will recognise this issue and fix it in upcoming generation. I am happy with my old generation Airpods pro.

Hey MacbookProJC,

It sounds like you may have Conversation Boost enabled.

To check that, we'd recommend reviewing the steps here: Customize Transparency mode for AirPods Pro (all generations) - Apple Support

"Use Conversation Boost

When your AirPods Pro are connected to an iPhone or iPad, you can use Conversation Boost to focus on the person talking in front of you. This makes it easier to hear in a face-to-face conversation.

Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.
On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Headphone Accommodations, and make sure Headphone Accommodations is turned on.
Tap Transparency Mode, turn on Custom Transparency Mode, then turn on Conversation Boost."
