Siri will not stop the timer on Apple Watch

When the Apple Watch timer ends, Siri will not stop the timer either audio or haptic. In addition, Siri will not respond to a new request for a timer.

Siri works for everything else on my watch but when a timer which has been set via Siri on my watch goes off, I cannot stop it by say ‘hey Siri stop timer’. I have to tap the watch face to stop it. This is really annoying if I am cooking or washing my hands etc.

Timers set on my phone will stop if I use Siri but not if the timer is set on my watch. When I say ‘hey Siri stop timer’ my phone replies saying there are no timers set. I’ve tried going into a different room so my phone can’t hear me but the timer still does not stop.

Both my watch and phone are on the latest versions of iOS. I have tried restarting my watch.

Hello KY035,

When you ask Siri to stop or start a new timer, what happens? Does Siri work on your Apple Watch for other functions?

We recommend working through the steps in the following support article: If Siri isn't working on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

  1. "Check the Internet connection on your Apple Watch.
  2. On your iPhone, see if Siri is turned on. Tap Settings > Siri & Search, then turn on Listen for "Hey Siri". Or tap Listen for and turn on Siri.
  3. On your Apple Watch, see if Siri is turned on. Tap Settings > Siri.
  4. Restart your Apple Watch.
  5. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Siri & Search, then turn off Listen for "Hey Siri". Or tap Listen for > Off. Then turn it on again.
  6. See if the microphone or speaker on your Apple Watch is blocked. For example, if your device has a protective case, remove it.
  7. If Siri doesn't speak on Apple Watch Series 3 or later, you might need to download its voice. The download happens when you’re on Wi-Fi and your Apple Watch is charging. To give the download time to complete, try charging your Apple Watch overnight. To check the status of the download on your Apple Watch, tap Settings > Siri, then scroll to Siri Voice. Learn which languages Siri speaks."

Cheers!

On my series 8 watch when the timer is alerting the time is due, siri will not respond, it appears blocked by the timer alert event. I am trying to cancel the timer alert using siri, but as siri is not listening it cannot do this. It has been like this through all the various updates since new. Currently software is 10.5 some really basic things never seem to get fixed. No similar problem on iphone and ipad.
