Safari crashing on load - iOS17 & iPadOS17

On either device if my last tab open was the start page, Safari crashes almost instantly. If I’m quick enough to open a website and have that as the last page open, then it does not. This issue seems to be directly related to the start page. Searching around has netted little results.

Troubleshooting steps taken so far:

  1. I have cleared safari website data and cache from both devices. This does not fix the issue.
  2. I cleared safari website data and cache, shut down all my apple devices (iphone, ipad, and watch), then started them back up in that order. Still did not resolve the issue.
  3. I attempted to change my start page preferences, but due to the crashing issues this is not feasible
  4. Just for testing reasons I shut off JavaScript from Safari. This also did not resolve the issue.
  5. Some people mentioned wifi access points. I turned off my wifi from my phone, using cellular, and I can still reproduce the issue.

My only extension is 1Password, though turning this on or off does not seem to change the behavior.

In an effort to reduce my usage of google I’m moving away from Chrome and using Safari. I started this with iOS17 update for both my phone and iPad, so I don’t know if Safari was doing this before.

Any other ideas to try? I do not own a Mac so please only suggestions which can be performed on the iPad or iPhone.

iPad Pro, iPadOS 17
