iOS 17 and Safari, Safari url/search bar stops working

Using Safari on iOS has become increasingly frustrating lately. Sometimes when using Safari on iOS, the search bar at the bottom stops working, I can type a search or a URL but when I hit enter, nothing happens. I can choose bookmarks, or previous sites or recommended sites from the new tab window and nothing will happen, the previous page loaded remains where it is. I have to either force close safari or restart the device to get things working. Am I the only person this is happening to? Is there an explanation for this that I am missing? Im running 17.0.2 on a 14 Pro 128GB

I don't think you understand the issue we're having. Unless you type an actual url into the bar, neither safari nor DuckDuckGo will work. The blue loading bar starts and then just stops at less than a quarter of an inch.

These weird suggestions you made don't apply to the problem at all. It's so frustrating to come onto this forum, because half of these "community specialist" answers are either inadequate or cut-n-paste-sounding nonsense.

This next article provides specific recommendations for troubleshooting issues in Safari: If Safari isn't loading websites or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

It can also be helpful to restart and update your iPhone again after the troubleshooting above has been completed.
