StandBy mode disappears after several hours

I have StandBy mode set to Always On.

Standby mode engages fine, and always stays on for a few hours. But at some point well into the night, my phone's screen goes black.

I can wake it by touching the screen. But why does it go black? I want it to stay on all night.

I'm using iOS 17 on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Do you also have your iPhone set to Always on Display in Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On Display (turn it on if it is not on). Also, is your iPhone plugged in to charge?
