‘Shared With You’ photos not showing in Photos

So I’m having issues with the ‘Shared With You’ section in Photos. Several friends have sent me pictures through iMessage but when I go to my Photos app and tap on the ‘For You’ tab all that shows is a message that reads “Photos scans your library to offer content curated for you. Connect your iPhone to power overnight to continue scanning.”

The annoying part is that the ‘Shared With You’ function seems to be working fine everywhere else. If someone sends me a Safari link, for example, when I open Safari the link shows up immediately under the ‘Shared With You’ section.

The only way I can get the photos to appear in my Photos app is if I save them to my phone manually which isn’t a big deal but this function was working perfectly before. Whenever I received a picture through iMessage it would almost immediately show up in ‘Shared With You’ in my Photos app.

I’ve searched and tried everything. I made sure I’m running the most recent software update (iOS 17), I have tried restarting my phone, I have checked to make sure that the ‘Shared With You’ option is turned on in Messages, I’ve made sure that I didn’t hide alerts for any of my contacts, I’ve signed out/signed in to my iCloud, and I even reset my phone and still it won’t work.

If anyone has a solution/fix that would be great. I receive pictures and videos from friends and family all the time and it’s nice being able to see those pictures in my Photos without having to actually save them in my phone first.

Hello,

Yes, I have left my phone connected to power overnight as indicated. I've done this several nights now. I have already contacted Apple directly (several times) and even they don't know why this is happening. Kind of annoying since it used to be working and now no matter how many times I reset my phone it just won't work.

Hey there Adrian_2817,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

Just to clarify, did you leave your phone connected to power overnight as the message indicated? The reason we ask is that this is an important step to try since it can take some time for your device to sync all of that content over. The best way to make sure that this is happening as expected is to connect your phone to power and let that process happen overnight.

If that doesn't do the trick, go ahead and contact Apple directly. If support is available in your region, this will let you work directly with an AppleCare Advisor who specializes in resolving this exact type of issue. You can begin by reaching out here: Get Support
