Notification sound issues after iOS 17
Since I updated to iOS 17, my iMessages and WhatsApp notifications sounds do not sound at all.
Any ideas how to fix it?

Not helpful at all! Have restarted phone several times without having to come to this board! If that was the problem most of us would not post!
something else is going on and not being addressed

I still have this issue on 17.3 with both my iPhone 12 and my wife's iPhone 12. We are constantly missing messages and phone calls
I called tech support and they had me reset my iPhone settings. That made my notification sound for iMessages and WhatsApp to work again. However, when I reconfigure the notification so that banners do not show up, but I leave the notification sound on, the sound notifications do not work. With the latest iOS 17 update, the notifications sounds are tight to the Banner Style. If no banner style is selected, the notification sound do not work either.
that is how I had it configured before, but now with the new iOS 17 update, it does not work the same and I had to select a banner style for the notification sounds to work.
Do you have an idea when this will be fixed?
I too am getting this, missed two very important texts since update to 17.3.1 because no notification sound - time to speak to Apple!
Why don't they test the updates before releasing them to an unsuspecting customer base
Hello jaialba,
Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with notification sounds for iMessage and WhatsApp. Have you tried restarting your iPhone? This simple step resolves a multitude of issues: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later
Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."
If that doesn't resolve the issue, does your iPhone need updating to iOS 17.0.2? Do you have a recent backup for the data in your iPhone in iCloud or your computer? If not, we recommend that you create one as described here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Then update your iOS as outlined here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
We hope this helps.
Cheers!
Hey jaialba,
Apple does appreciate all feedback regarding our products, services, and features. If you'd like to provide feedback on your experience with our products or services, you can do so using this link: Feedback - iPhone - Apple.
All the best.
Before iOS 17, I had configured messages to make a sound but not to display notifications, and it worked fine.
After iOS 17, I have to enable any kind of visual notification for the sound notification to sound. Otherwise, the notifications don’t sound even with the notification sound configured and active.
It seems to me to be a glitch, and hopefully it will get resolved soon.
Also, have not really find this community helpful at all.
I have the same issue with Twitter/X notifications which just started a week ago. It's not a big issue as I can still hear something and vibrate still works but not the default sound for the app and not nearly loud enough. Tried all the fore mentioned tricks to no avail.
Thanks for sharing DavidUllrich202. for what I just read, that specific issue you are reporting will be addressed on 17.2 update. Let's wait and see.
