Airtag not sharing with ios17

I have two iphone se 2020 on ios 17


I have two airtags linked to my apple id and want to shars them with my wife’s applie id (who is on my family sharing & ios17)


I get a message stating her id /number is not eligible for sharing. How ever I can’t find an eligibility criteria to sort this.


does anyone have any ideas?

iPhone 5s, iOS 12

yes, as mentioned both phones are running ios 17.1 on iPhone SE2020


I select the air tag I wish to share, I select the apple id or linked phone no. And I immediately get apple id not eligible.

I have tried this with other family members running ios 17 on iPhone SE2020 or later and I get the same error message.


I’m not alone with this as I have read on many other forums. I believe the solution is apple need to fix the bug amd provide an update for ios17
