How do I fix login when the progress bar stops at 100%

I have a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012 which will not allow me to sign in. I have tried unsuccessfully Booting in safe mode, using Command, Option, P&R to reset NVRam & Pram, re-installed OS Catalina 10.15.6 & used First Aid, Recover Mode etc

This only happened yesterday but having spent many hours on this, I don't know what else to try. I see that this was a problem number of years ago but could not see any resolutions.
