Mac photos not recognizing faces

I have an issue with photos not starting to identify faces in photos that i added

to my default library on my Mac SSD synced with icloud. Photos are a mix

of iphone, and camera imports, about 300-400 photos i added to the

library a week ago. Photos does not start to recognize any faces (not

even adding unnamed circles to the photos). Have added a couple of names

manually, no change. The process photoanalysisid seems to be sitting

idle most time. When going to People and trying the "confirm additional photos"

for somebody that is in the new added photos, i am getting "there don't

appear to be any additional photos of...". Tried restart of photos and

mac as well, but no change.... Any idea?

Thanks Ieonie,

I can confirm that Photos library is in default location in pictures folder of my SSD installed in mac.

I left Mac running on power overnight now for more than a week. As mentioned the process photoanalysisid is idle always, except when i do something in photos app, then it is using some percent of CPU with 2-5 threads, but after some seconds going to zero again. Status shows "Synced with iCloud Just Now", so nothing else is going on.

Perhaps the background processes of Photos are not able to access the Photos Library? Where is your Photos Library stored? Is it in your Pictures folder or on an external drive? If your Photos Library is on an external drive, keep this drive connected at all times, even if you are currently not using Photos.

And is the external drive formatted as described here? Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac - Apple Support

Are you keeping your Mac running over night, when you are not using it, to give Photos time to scan the library? What is the status bar showing below the All Photos window? Are any items shown as "unable to upload" or "on this Mac only"?
