How to manually force photoanalysisd to work?

I'm using Monterey 12.1 and Photos 7.0

My current library has been imported from an old iPhoto one.

(My library is on an external SSD drive, always on, and the screensaver or screen backgrounds sees my pictures, I also checked with the 'files and ports' tab in the process window in activity monitor app that my library was found)

Every time I click on 'personne' (French for 'people' of 'face', I get this message : '0 photo analysed, Photo will go on analysing...' (see screenshot attached in French)

And I have to label all my faces manually.

Is there a way to force photoanalysisd to detect faces?

I read a lot of answers in forum and tried with systemctl enable, I also did a 'touch' on the folders that could trigger the automatic run, but nothing is working.

Any idea?

Good question, in fact it is ExFAT/MBR. I guess I chose that to easily plug it on a Linux or Win machine.

What you're suggesting is not that difficult, I'm going to do it : format a new drive, copy my library and show it to Photos as my main library.

In fact I'm wondering if there is something wrong in my OS, because it used to work, and now it's (sometimes) working but never finds faces. To check I just created an empty lib (with people) and will let it for a while as my main lib to see if photoanalysisd does something on that one.

THANKS A LOT @Roo_boy

Thanks for your answer Keith,

(it's my first question in that forum, before that I always managed by reading answers given to others, and I'm really (positively) surprised about how people (you ;-) ) care for other's issues...)

So, I followed Roo_boy advice and put my lib on a new disk that was not exFAT. I left if two nights, nothing appeared. But I have chosen "Extended Mac OS (journalized)". I'm going to redo the test with APFS (see my screenshot, in French). I didn't know HFS/APFS were still in use, I remember using that on old SCSI hard drives on Mac OS 9 or even 7....

I'll keep you posted and thanks again!
