It seems like an unreasonable requirement and I am aware that it used to be supported and that the operating system is basically the same as other mobile devices like iPads, which do support it. I make sure you get more money from me by not doing blatant money grabs.

the purpose of the home hub is to act as gateway when one is not present on the wifi/Lan of ones home
suppose their logic is that an iphone is something one bring along when one is not present in the home which would nullify it's role as hub
they recently with the updated disabed ipads (which I suppose they felt one less likely to bring along when one leaves I guess) to act as hub also
so now I believe only appletv and homepod works

iPhone was never supported as a Hub and iPads no longer are once Home has been upgraded to the new home architecture.
Why can't you use an iPhone as your Home Hub?
