Wifi Works For Some Applications But Not Others MacOS High Sierra

My MacBook Air 13-inch, Mid 2011 has problems with wifi. It works fine for some applications, but others are affected and can't access the internet. I have tried deleting the wifi network files but that doesn't work. I can't update my mac as it is already at the highest software it can run. Please help!
