windows pc not recognizing apple usb keyboard

I recently purchased an apple keyboard (used) thinking it would be a simple plug and go situation.

However, that does not seem to be the case. when I plug the keyboard into my PC, I get a USB device not recognized message.

I have not seen anything online that addresses this issue, and am wondering if someone has an answer for me.

I am currently running Windows 10, and my drivers are up to date. Is there something I need to do to be able to use the keyboard on my PC?

Since you purchased it used, do you have another computer handy that you can test it with? If not, maybe ask a friend or relative for assistance.

Just to be sure, the A1243 is the (non-wireless) Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. They were introduced in 2007 and discontinued by Apple in 2017.

Does it look like this? If so, double-check to see if it has a small on/off switch on either an edge or on the bottom. (Sorry, I don't have one handy and would suspect that it doesn't if it not wireless.)

I have posted in a windows 10 forum as well with no luck yet.

what is odd is that although the PC does not recognize the keyboard and I cannot use it for typing, the usb ports on the keyboard are working.

Ok, I did manage to locate the Apple keyboard. The same model as yours. It may take me a day or two, as I'm not at the location of my Win11 PC. Again, will let you know my results when I give it a try.

Ok, I got a chance to test this keyboard with my PC, and it worked just fine ... so, it may be possible that the one you have is defective. Still worth you trying it with another computer ... or even on another USB port on your PC. Good luck!

The model number of the keyboard is A1243 if it helps.

That is the correct model.

I will test it in another computer and see if it works there. It does not have an on/off switch.

I may still have one of these keyboards in my computer "spare parts" bin. If I can locate it, I do have a Windows 11 PC that I can try it with. I will let you know, one way or the other.
