Can't see all files "On My iPhone" from Mac Finder

The iPhone "Files" view in Mac Finder shows folders that don't exist "On My iPhone", and more importantly, some files "On My iPhone" do not show up in Mac Finder. What's up with that?

this is not related to my issue. I have several folders of files just under On My iPhone, in the Files app on the phone. Some, but not all of them, are visible under Files on the Mac. My solution was simply the folder of interest into another folder in exactly the same location (one which happened to be visible on the Mac). Then I could access that folder on the Mac.
