Airpods wont connect to multiple devices

I just got new airpod pros and have been using them without issue on my phone for a few weeks now. However, when I connect them to my Macbook and try to swap back to using them on my phone, they no longer connect. My phone will either give the message to make sure they are turned on and in range, or it will tell me to forget the device and try reconnecting. When i reconnect them to my phone, they stop working on my laptop. Both devices are signed into the same iCloud, both have the latest updates, and i don't have this issue with my old airpods.
