Received message on my HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 Panel stating "The Printer update could not be downloaded." When press  OK on the panel it cycles the printer and it comes right back to this message. It sits on 00% and

then the panel goes back to the same message. Press Retry and it cycles back to the same “update could not be downloaded” message again. In between cycles the unit will print documents and then retries the cycle

pattern.  My computer is a iMac desktop running macOSX Ventura 13.5 and it is connected via wireless to the HP OfficeJet Pro 9018.

Replies from HP Community have almost all been folks saying they have the same problem. One said it may be because I have a Mac and resolution may only work with a Windows based machine. Another suggested it might be a Mac Ventura interface issue in that it started for him only after he installed Ventura. That was my experience as well. All prior downloads prior to installing Ventura were fine. I only upgraded to Ventura about a month ago (I tend to be a late vs. an early adopter).

Does anyone know of any interface issue between OSX Venture 13.5 and HP printers? And if so, does anyone know how to resolve it?

Hi,

This appears to be a message related to a printer firmware update. It should not have something to do directly with the Mac operating system. Any change if you try another method according to the information on page 37 in the following manual? Is the printer properly connected to the Wi-Fi network (router)?

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06220009.pdf#vupdate123

The HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-In-One Printer is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as an AirPrint-supported model. You do not need an additional printer driver when using an AirPrint printer. This provided that the Mac is connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router) as the printer.

AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections, so you could choose to wire the printer by Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router. Ethernet (which is available on your printer as well) may be more stable, and this method could avoid some other problems with a wireless printer connection.

The printer manufacturer may provide an extra app for setup, ink management and similar purposes.

A USB cable connection between the Mac and the printer would require printer drivers from the printer manufacturer.
