Hamburger Button Missing in Apple Books iPadOS 16.6

When I open a pdf in Apple Books iPadOS 16.6 there is no hamburger button at the bottom of the screen for settings. For example, I am unable to set pdfs to be able to be read with page curl.

The hamburger button does appear when I open an epub.

I thought it should appear when reading both pdfs as well as epubs.

Can anyone help me?

Page curl is non-existent with pdfs.

Thanks. I've found another app which does page curl for pdfs.
