ipad air (4th gen) black screen, tried force restart, burping, recovery mode, dfu mode nothing works

Hi

I am on my vacation and my ipad air went dead. It remains black screen. I googled and tried charging, but no response. I switched the cable (to the working cable for my iPad mini), but the screen remains black. I can feel the back of the iPad is warm (prob that indicates it's charging correctly). Then, I tried force restart, but that didn't work as the screen remained black. The screen never showed the battery + cable symbols. I also tried burping technique, but that didn't help as I couldn't bring to force restart step and it remained with a black screen. I also connected the iPad to my MacBook, but I can't find the iPad in Finder. iPad seems to be unresponsive. Finally, I tried the combination to bring it to the DFU mode, but the screen remained black. I am wondering if there is anything else I can try. I am also curious does this mean there's no hope of recoverying my ipad air?

If your iPad is unresponsive, connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge. Then, while still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:


Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.




Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.




If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.


If you continue to experience difficulties, you will need to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. While you might not have an official Apple Store, you may still have an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP).


You can attempt to restore your iPad to Factory Settings.

Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod to factory settings – Apple Support


You’ll need access to either a Windows PC (with iTunes for Windows installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of macOS).

Download and use iTunes for Windows – Apple Support

Update to the latest version of iTunes – Apple Support
