im trying to use an hdmi with adapter to display ipad screen but it isnt working anymore only the blue icon of adapter shows on ipad and goes away. but when i try and do my iphone with same hdmi it works. I was also using same adapter and hdmi about an hour ago and it worked now it isn’t

Since it's specific to just the iPad, restart the iPad before attempting to connect it again as this might clear out issues of the iPad reading the connection: Restart your iPad - Apple Support
How to restart an iPad without a Home button
1. Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.
Be sure to follow the other steps in the link if you have a model with a Home button.
