Recording sleep with Apple Watch

"All of a sudden", my sleep data is not showing up in the Health app. It just shows a straight line for the amount of time I am "in bed" - not the Core/REM/Awake data it was showing before. I did not change anything! It used to work!

Same issue for me. Same for my wife. Something happened with an update very recently. Would be curious to see if this is a widespread issue. I have iphone 11 with apple watch 5. Wife has iphone 14 with apple watch 3. Just straight line for "In Bed". Additional data = empty

Ok, so yesterday I went on a mission to fix this issue because the level of upset I was was big…

I have found that the data is there and being recorded just fine! So don't panic there!

I installed a third party sleep tracker from the list that's at the end of the sleep section of the health app (I did a little research and got autosleep and for $6 from a broke all the time person I 10/10 reccomend) and set it up to sync all data with the health app and BOOM the most comprehensive sleep analysis I've ever laid eyes on!

My conclusion: Whatever update that rolled out in September broke the stock sleep apps analysis functionality.

I hope I was able to help! Sorry it's not the answer we all want (for apple to fix their app) but I've at least found a solid work around in the meantime.

I'm having the SAME issue with Apple my apple watch series 9… brand new out the box and I triple checked to make sure everything is set up correctly! And as with any new thing I restart everything involved after setup… soooo… I'm gonna go ahead and say it's an update, and I'm very not happy about it as it's one of the main features I like having a smart watch for because my sleep is iffy at best…

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.
