Apple TV Can't Connect to my Itunes Library
I have a 4th Generation Apple TV that I use at my entertainment station to play my itunes music through my good speakers. Itunes is on my desktop Windows 10 machine that is in my office. The actual music library and itunes files are on an external drive attached to that desktop. Both the desktop and the Apple tv are ethernet wired to the same router (I only have one). So, the problem is not one of them being on different networks.
This system has been working well for me for years and all of sudden, yesterday, the Apple tv is giving me a message that it can't connect to my itunes library.
I spent all day yesterday working on this. Sigh. And I feel no closer to fixing it.
Things I have tried:
- Yes, itunes is open on the desktop when I'm trying to access it on the apple tv
- Made sure I have the same user id signed into itunes and the apple TV
- Made sure apple TV, Windows, and itunes all have all updates installed (the caviat to this is that my computer says it can upgrade to windows 11 and I'm not ready to do that. So, that hasn't been done)
- Made sure under sharing in itunes I have the "share all files" box checked
- I use ESET for virus and firewall protection and tried pausing that
- Turned off both apple tv and desktop and turned back on (multiple times in multiple orders)
- Turned off home sharing on both apple tv and desktop and turned back on (multiple times in different orders)
- Turned off and restarted both router and modem just in case, while turning off and restarting both apple tv and desktop
- I had just purchased a 2nd, matching, apple tv that had not been installed yet, so I switched out the apple tv for the new one, just in case
- Tried replacing the router with my backup one just in case
- Reset the apple tv
Can anyone help?!!!!
I'm in the middle of a crunch period and really can't work without music. So, this is a HUGE problem and I don't know what to do!
