MacBook Air Screen goes Black
Hey, everyone!
Today a problem with my 13" MacBook Air M1 appeared. Out of nowhere, the screen just turns black. The keyboard lightning remains on, the trackpad is tactile. It has happened the same with Windows laptops. So what I thought the resolve would be, is to press and. hold on the power button until it turns off. The Mac turns off, and starts back up as normal.
WOW, problem solved!
Not really! After 5 minutes, the screen turns back off, this time, however, I try to repeat the process. The Mac starts up, the screen remains black (since it has the "old-fashioned" LCD display, you can tell when it's off or when it just shows a black picture). I can hear the Mac start up sound and the keyboard lightning starting to flash.
I plug it in to a TV and everything just works fine.
I thought it might have been a hardware issue. Since I have no warranty, I try to take matters in my whole hands. I open up the MacBook and try to push the display connectors back in. Power it on, and enjoy my working laptop.
I thought I'd also do a reset, so that's what I did. Backup most of my files to an external SSD and reset the OS.
Everything is working perfectly. I set it up and spend another hour downloading the apps and rewriting the files to my Mac. I take a look at the MacOS version and realise, oh, I haven't updated the software for almost a year, so I do the update from MacOS 13.1 to 13.5. AMAZING!
During the update the display turns black again. My first thoughts are: Hey, the Mac normally reboots and that should be normal. I wait. A minute passes by, then 10 minutes, and I start to worry. Why is the display black for almost 30 minutes now?
Press and hold on the power button, the laptops turns off, then turn it back on. Surprise! It works!
Another 5 minutes passes by and the display again turns back off. This time, rebooting does not help.
I decide to let is seat for couple of hours. Hop the display open, it's black. Turn the laptop off again, now it works normally. This is how im writing this message right now.
I do not know what the issue actually is, but it turns off when I do not use it. If I would go right now to the bathroom, I would be 100 % sure the display would turn black again.
When I restart it, there is a 20 % chance it just shows any colours.
Now I got this MacBook used, around 4 months ago. I have been pushing it in the first couple of months like crazy, and it never let me down. I NEVER ever had any issues like this before, it just has worked no matter how hard I would have pushed it.
I'm a Romanian high school student, so I need this laptop more than anything. This really just makes my work so productive in school. I take it everywhere with me. I code on it, video edit and sometimes even play light games, such as Minecraft.
Any help would help me a lot, I really do not have any money to spend!
