How do I tell if Apple Pay updated my credit card expiration date?

My credit card was about to expire and I received a new one with a different expiration date. I know Apple Pay can sometimes update it automatically, but how do I tell if that happened? I can’t find any place where it shows the expiration date. I thought I would just enter the card again to be sure it would work, but Apple says the card is already in there, which it is, with either the new or old expiration date. I tried to delete the card so I could add it fresh, but Apple won’t let me because it’s linked to some subscriptions, which is why I wanted to update it. I feel like this is a frustrating logic loop. Do I just need to wait and see if my purchases and subscriptions start failing to get paid?

Jeff. Seriously. The original question was about seeing the expiration date.

If you know for a fact that it cannot be shown to you by Apple, then state that fact as part of your initial reply, instead of ignoring it and calling everyone with this particular question 'unworthy of support.' That might be more helpful.

Maybe Apple could add it as a FAQ about Apple Pay or something, but they don't seem to want anyone to know either. Or maybe I'm just an idiot for wanting to know why all of my smart devices seem to be getting dumber.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

As enjoyable as it would be for me to spend 30 minutes navigating my bank’s customer service line trying to find someone who would actually know that, wouldn’t it be easier for everyone if Apple had a way for people to see their credit card expiration date on the edit account information menu, or a way for people to manually update it? I will default to my other option and stop using Apple Pay for a few months until I’m clearly past the original card expiration and Apple has managed to withdraw money for a recurring subscription.

I don’t need >good luck< to receive information from my bank. I have their apps or link to website on my iPhone and iPad. It’s also generally very easy to chat or contact my bank. I’ve enabled notifications and when a card nears expiration date I receive new cards etc. If it’s that big a concern, remove the card and add it again.

The Apple support article states most banks update the expiration automatically. In my experience, all the large banks do it. A question worthy of Apple support might be are expired cards automatically removed? That might be a way to resolve the issue.

The date is hidden for the same reason full account numbers are hidden, CVV security code and other details are hidden. They are considered part of the secure data of your account. You are granted access to that information by the bank that issued the account. Your bank does not give Apple permission to share that information. Apple shares information where the bank authorizes sharing to complete a transaction and only the information required. Sharing of the information is done in an encrypted manner and only the bank has the key to decrypt the data. Your bank controls what data is shared and in what form (encrypted or decrypted).

Then why not come right out and say it directly? "Sorry, Apple isn't allowed to show you your own card information. Not on any device or by any means whatsoever. Good luck getting help from your bank, and failing that, here's a link to the Add a Card/Remove a Card instructions."

I looked at a number of different threads, and not one person would come out and say this. Just the same kb article over and over again without addressing the actual question.

The original poster asked two questions and neither question asked how do I see the expiration date of my card. If it’d been asked, I’d have answered the question to the best of my ability.

I’m sorry my mind works in such a linear and literal fashion. I had no intention of hiding information I’m aware of. Sorry.

I’m sorry I don’t answer questions to your satisfaction. I try to exercise my best judgment in answering questions and choosing my response and words to best answer the questions and concerns posted.

I see that you feel strongly about this issue and I urge you to reach out and provide feedback to both Apple and Goldman Sachs. Please use the information/link below to provide your feedback.
