I have an A1314 keyboard which has had little use and when I have paired it with my iMac running OS 10.13.6 (High Sierra), the tab, caps lock and shift keys on the left side of keyboard don't work. They work fine if I bring up the keyboard viewer and the shift key on right side works fine. Any ideas please?

You mean they are showing they been pressed....
Typically issues with single keys, keys associatied on the diagonal, are keys in a straight or vertical row indicates a hardware issue.
Try an alternate external keyboard and compare your results‚ this would be telling.
Circuit trace failure...Keyboards are not repaired they are replaced.
