I have a bizarre issue where certain keys on the built-in mac book keyboard won't work when pressed but they do work when I press shift and that key. The affected keys are 1QAZ, the keys that go diagonally down the left side of a keyboard. It seems like a software issue but not sure how to troubleshoot and run any diagnostics
Additionally, visually check to see if a piece of debris is possibly caught under those keys. Also, if you have canned air you could try blowing out those keys. The other possible cause MIGHT be that some liquid was spilled on those keys?

Exactly what settings are you referring to? I don't see any settings like that on my Mac, and I don't know of any that would affect just the 1qaz keys.
Just to add, you could try the Accessibility Keyboard.
One thing you can try…
Try booting into Safe Mode then restart normally. Sometimes that will fix anomalies.
The only way to troubleshoot would be to try a different keyboard or try the keyboard on a different computer.
Sorry to clarify, the issue is happening on the Macbook built-in keyboard. Those keys work fine on an external keyboard
No problem. If they work with an external keyboard, most likely it's a hardware problem and would need looked at.

Hi there. I ended up sending it off for repair. I initially took it into the Apple store and the tests they did didn't fix it.
Gotcha. Did they install a new keyboard? How much did the repair cost you?
