Allowing App Notifications Only On Specific Focus

I have some work-related apps that I just want notifications during Work focus. I don't want them when 'no focus' mode is enabled.

I dislike a lot the 'personal' focus. I find the 'personal' focus mode totally useless; 'no focus' is actually personal focus.

I tried to create a shortcut to enable-disable notification from specific apps only during one focus, but failed miserably.

You do not seem to understand how focus works. Let me help explain.

No focus allows all notices from all apps, mail, phone calls, etc. No Focus blocks nothing so that is not going to do what you want. If you want to exclude notifications from one specific app only, then you need to creat a custom focus that only blocks that one app.

If you don’t like the personal focus, then do not use it. But it is not the same as no focus.

I understood Focus quite well. You didn't understand my question though. I will explain again:

When I'm using my iphone, which has an operating system that's theoretically designed to be user-friendly, I like to use the Work focus (which is automatically on during specific timeframes, by the way) to enable specific notifications only.

However, none of us like to configure different focus, because we don't use them. You have to set them up; you have to think about them; it pops you up with different filters. It's simply useless, if it's already a personal phone that also has work-related stuff, why do I need a personal focus? I don't. I just want to enable specific things on other focuses, and use these other ones when needed, very specifically. The rest is already set by default in my everyday phone.

why use a personal focus on a personal phone? It's already personal (!!!).

It seems you want your iPhone to stop notifications from a specific app at a specific time… with a minimum of effort on your part, but you do not want to use a custom focus. Please do not bother correcting me if I am wrong. This will be my last post on the subject.

I found two ways to temporarily stop notifications from one, specific app, that do not involve focus.

  1. Since it is not an Apple developed app, contact the the app developer and ask them if there is a function within the app that will do what you want
  2. Or, you can go to Settings > Notifications. Scroll down to your work app and tap it. At the top of the page you have the option to Allow Notifications. If you are starting your quiet time, turn that off. When you are ready to receive notifications again, turn it back on. Not as automatic as you would like, but it will work.
