I inadvertantly created a tab in the sidebar on Safari. How do I close it or delete it? There is no x next to the tab.

When I right-click I get messages: Copy Link, New Tab Group with this Tab, Show Tab Overview, Hide Tabs in Sidebar.
No option to delete.
The Tab changes with whatever website I have open. I think that is really strange.
Then, as said in the previous reply, it simply shows the tab/s opened in the current Safari window session.
It’s a normal behavior to change/update the listed tabs according to the tabs the user opens. You can convert the listed tabs in a group, if heeded.
It’s created automatically whenever a tab (basically, a Safari activty) is open in a Safari window. There’s no need to manually delete it.
It just seems odd that until I clicked on new Tab by mistake, there was nothing in the Sidebar.
It seems to me, though, that it's simply the tab you have opened in Safari. If you hover it, you should see a right arrow listing the current only open page you have in Safari.

Could you provide a screenshot to better understand where has the tab been created?
Can you right-click on the "1 Tab"? Do you get a Context Menu with the possibility to delete the tab?
Here, it shows Empty Page if the Safari window doesn't contain any website loaded.
