We have an Apple Book Pro M1 2020 with two ports on the side. I don’t know what type the ports are. I bought an Apple thunderbolt /Ethernet adapter that doesn’t fit. What do I need to purchase to attach the computer to my modem directly?

I purchased this Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter - Apple which doesn’t fit the computer. It appears to accept a Lightning plug for some reason. Is what you suggest different? I already accidentally have two of what I can’t use. My family has a large collection of Apple products and I can’t keep track of the different ports on them. The ports on the MacBook Pro are the same as the one on my iPad Pro.
