Quicktime player won't open QT movie file

"This file contains some media which isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player."

I'm on a MacStudio with OS Ventura. I think everything is updated but I can't get some movie files to play.

Either the video codec or audio code or something else inside the file isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player. There are many reasons why that can happen; e.g. made with old software, made with different software.

If all you need is playback, then try alternative media players: VLC or IINA.

If QuickTime compatibility is very important to you, then you may want to convert. I would suggest HandBrake, as it has nice presets for compatibility with devices.
