I cannot go back to previous song in apple music

I have been using iTunes forever (it's now called apple music, i know). I recently purchased a subscription to Apple's streaming music service. Before that, it was a competely local library. When I use apple music streaming, I choose a song and then it continues to play choosing ranodm songs that are similar to the one I initially selected. However, if I want to go back to the previous song(s) that just played, I cannot. The back button is greyed out.

This issue is a constant annoyance. I then tried spotify, youtube music, etc but I didn't like those either for various reasons. I would really like to continue using iTunes cuz that's what I'm familiar with and it is a much better experience than the others. But this one GLARING problem is going to lead me to cancel my trial.

I have done basic troubleshooting. Restart, check for updates, reset settings to default, etc. I googled for a while but it seems this has been an issue for years and nobody has a good solution?

I am on Ventura 13.5. Apple music is version 1.3.6.14.

I believe that those controls affect playlists, not music hopping. You can see your history and next items by clicking the list icon on the right.

Still, it seems like the "Previous" button is a silly thing to remove or disable in any case. Especially on 'smart' radio stations designed to cater to the tastes of the listener.

I mean, consider that I'm listening to my "Discovery" station and I hear a song that I think I might want to purchase. I try to hit 'Previous' to find the name of the song... maybe even the group and album I've never heard but so sorry... it's not an option. Even when my listening history is turned on!

I consider this a glitch and implore Apple to fix it. There is no good reason to disable this feature when the option to skip a song still remains.

Oh, Apple, if you could add an easy way to fix all the duplicate songs showing up in our Music libraries, that would be super.
