The audio playback on voice messages stops and the screen goes dark when I lift the phone to my ear to listen. It’s annoying. Is there a way to turn this feature off?

When I try to play audio messages sent through WhatsApp/Telegram/iMessage the screen will go black and stop playing when I try to listen closer and bring it to my ear.

Is there a way to fix this so that the message will keep playing?

this person asked the same question: When I raise my phone to the ear to listen to voice messages in Whatsapp or Telegram, even Signal, I am not able to hear anything. The screen goes dark and when I let the phone down I can see the silent notification, although my phone is not on silent mode. I have read that others had the same problem, but none of the solutions given did work, I mean updating iOS or the app doesn’t solve the problem. The issue is not because of the apps, but something else. This is very annoying. Have you had the same problem? Is there a real solution?

But Apple Customer Support didn’t answer the question and offered a solution to a different problem. The desire is to have the audio message continue to play and not stop and go dark.

thank you!
