Keeps saying that this update requires Wi-Fi connection to update and yet I have Wi-Fi

Every time I open a app it will take so long and then crash and it says that it needs an update but then when I go to settings and press update it will gray out the update button and its saying I need Wi-Fi connection even though I have strong Wi-Fi connection so if can help that would be appreciated.
