CDs into itunes

so I stick a load of my Cds into itunes then want to create playlists, but the itunes wont allow certain songs or cds to play because they are greyed out and some nonsense about it being out of area pops up if I try to resolve it

so looked on the rather useless community forum where lots of irrelvent advice is given...eg suggesting I downloaded music from apple store...nope, or Ive got apple music on the cloud somewhere, nope

using windows and thats not going to change

so why does itunes make it so difficult to get around this issue?

is there a viable workaround which does not involve losing more hours out of my life trying to get it to to do a simple task, or should i just get an android phone and bin itunes?

Hhmm. Well, I don't think I've ever seen a greyed out song in the main library.

All tracks on a CD should be stored in the same folder, so look in the folder where the album is located and see if you can find the greyed out song.

The usual path is Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/<artist name>/<album title>/<song title>. You may find music in the iTunes Music folder instead of iTunes Media:

The numbering (included in the track name) is the disc number followed by the track number. Are your greyed out songs in the folder with the rest of the album? If not, can you right-click a greyed out song (in your library) and select Show in Windows Explorer? This will open the folder with the file in it.

As a volunteer, here on the community forum I am asking exactly what the error message says. If the message referred to music not being authorised, that usually happens with music purchased from the iTunes Store, not from rips of CDs. So can you check any songs that gave a message about not being authorised, to see whether the songs affected are purchases from the iTunes Store or rips from CDs?

Personally, I have no experience of a CD track being greyed out (in the library), so can you confirm that it is a track ripped (copied) from CD into this specific iTunes Library? If what you have done is added music from somewhere else, that originally came from CD, then it's no longer a CD, instead it's an audio file (possibly in MP3 format), that you have added to your library. There's a significant difference.

The occasion when I have seen greyed out songs is when I look at the iPod from my iTunes Library. Those greyed out songs may be because iTunes has not yet copied them to the iPod (i.e. a Sync is still in progress) or due to an incomplete Sync. We won't know without more information from you.

In order to solve your problem, we need a good understanding of the symptoms, hence my questions to you.

Note that I have not suggested that you use Apple Music, the cloud, or ditch Windows. My question about purchases (also known as downloads from the store) is because it is a relevant question.

Hi kinellfire,

Can I ask if the tracks that won't play are actually stored on your computer, or are on your iPhone, whether connected to iTunes or not? The "not valid in your region" message (or words to that effect) seems to be a out of context error message that can be displayed when there is content on the device that hasn't transferred over properly. Wiping the Music store on the device and reloading is the only real workaround.
