iphone 12 suddenly won't accept passcode, but receives calls, texts, etc.

iphone 12 suddenly won't accept passcode, but receives calls, texts, etc. From poking around apple support and other online sources, I haven't found a way to bypass that login screen...everyone just says to restore factory settings, meaning wipe out any data not stored since the last backup. There MUST be a way to at least extract the last batch of photos, notes, etc since it is completely functional (again, receives calls, I can see incoming texts, the ring doorbell notifications, news feed notifications, etc.) ...but I cannot initiate any process.

Anyone have a reliable, trustable workaround? My main goal is to save anything since the last backup, THEN worry about getting the phone functional again.

iPhone 12, iOS 16

If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support that is the only way, can't extract your data that hasn't been backed up.

Update on functionality: I CAN make calls if connected to my car through bluetooth...tried it on a hunch. It's burning through battery like crazy, too. This is not a "me" problem, it's the phone malfunctioning. Did not forget passcode. No. Guarantee it. I see many similar posts on this forum, all with the same comments that are a bit assuming: "you forgot your code". Same code since the beginning of phone passcodes. Not a mis-entry...I watch the little numbers light up under my finger. This is a fairly common issue that Apple has ignored for years (see across the forum). There must be a way to show I am who I am, the phone is mine, everything works except for the passcode screen, seems like Apple should have (and dedicate) some resources to a solution other than: erase it all. We're not all absent-minded, code-losing fools. Hardware sometimes fails. Software glitches (after this, I'm not going to allow auto updates, let others find the glitches instead). And from all the related posts, it's not a rarity. Please find a real solution, not an insult and brush-off.
