How do you get the Kindle Text-to-speech working for Ventura 13.4?

Hi, I have been unable to get my Kindle's text-to-speech working on my new Mac. The Kindle version is 1.40.1 (65624), and my Mac runs on Ventura 13.4. When I click Tools -> Start Text-to-Speech, nothing happens. Any help is appreciated.

I cannot speak for Ventura but I can say that Kindle disabled that feature shortly after Amazon purchased Audible. On my Kindle Oasis and in the Kindle apps on my iPad Pro (latest edition) and my iPad mini, if I want to “hear” a book, I have to buy the audio version from Audible, rather than the text version. Audible has a good app for Apple devices.
