In macOS Ventura 13.2.1, under Settings -> Desktop & Dock -> Mission Control, there is an on/off toggle switch as follows: "When switching to an application, switch to a Space with open windows for the application"
I've tried to play with this setting on and off with windows of applications open in different Spaces, but am not seeing what it does.
Can someone please explain how to use this setting / how it's supposed to work?

Sadly this feature is buggy, at least on Mac Os Ventura. I have this option deactivated. I do not want Mac Os to EVER automagically switch between desktops unless I say so via shortcut or gesture. When I have my web browser open on multiple desktops, 1 desktop for work, 1 desktop for private stuff. In each web browser different pages are open. When I then click on the web browser dock Icon it switches between desktops. It will switch again and again between desktops each time I click on the dock icon of the web browser. This is really annoying and the exact opposite of what the disabled option should do. Any suggestions?

It basically does what it says. With this acrive:
Suppose you are in Space 1, and use Command-tab to switch to an application- say, Safari - and there is a Safari window already in Space 3: then you will be automatically in Space 3.
Ah I see. Thank you. I was clicking on the dock to switch the application, not using CMD-TAB to switch the application
