Titles stopped appearing in Photos

I've launched Photos today and in standard library view the captions/filenames no longer appear beneath the photos. Help says it will appear when you hold over the picture but this doesn't work.


Titles is selected in View > Metadata.


Now I can't use this feature to make sense of the photo!

You will only be seeing the titles below the thumbnails in the library view in All Photos, Recents, Imports, but not in the tiled views (Days, Months, Years), because there is no space between the cropped tiles.

To see the titles in All Photos, switch the view from square thumbnails to "Full Aspect Ratio", as shown here:
